Dr. Indrani Roy Chowdhury is a Professor of Economics at the Centre for the Study of Regional Development (CSRD), School of Social Sciences (SSS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India, a position she has held since 2015. She also holds a concurrent faculty position in the School of Engineering (SoE) at Jawaharlal Nehru University. She has served as a Visiting Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Dr. Roy Chowdhury teaches Health Economics, Quantitative Methods, Microeconomics, and Statistics. Her research primarily focuses on Health Economics, Gender Studies, and Environmental Economics. She is currently engaged in research and doctoral supervision in the areas of public policy, particularly maternal and child health, public health interventions, and regional development. A significant part of her work also examines women's agency, gender-based disparities, intimate partner violence, and the role of social norms in shaping socioeconomic outcomes.
She has collaborated with several eminent institutions, including AIIMS, CRUK–DBT, ICSSR, NCAER, and NITI Aayog. She served as Treasurer and Executive Committee Member of the Indian Society for Ecological Economics (INSEE) during 2020–2022.
Prior to joining JNU, Dr. Roy Chowdhury was affiliated with the Department of Economics at Jamia Millia Islamia, the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), and the Council for Social Development (CSD), New Delhi.
She obtained her Ph.D. in Environmental Economics from the Centre for International Trade and Development (CITD), School of International Studies (SIS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and her M.Phil. in Economics from Jadavpur University.
