Ecology, Economy and Society: Journal of the Indian Society for Ecological Economics
Rules and Regulations[1]
- Definitions: In these rules, unless specifically mentioned otherwise, the following definitions will prevail for the operation of the Ecology, Economy and Society—Journal of the Indian Society for Ecological Economics (hereafter the Journal):
(i) Advisory Board: The Advisory Board, as defined by clause 2 of this regulation, shall formulate the policy of the Journal to guide the Editor (or Editors, as the case may be) in its publication and running.
(ii) Associate Editor: The Associate Editors, as defined by clause 5 of this regulation, shall assist the Editor(s) in publishing the Journal as per the Journal’s policy defined in clause 7 (a) of this regulation.
(iii) Editor: The Editor (or Editors, as the case may be), defined by clause 4 of this regulation, shall be responsible for publishing the Journal as per the Journal’s policy defined in clause 7 (a) of this regulation.
(iv) Editorial Board: The Editorial Board, as defined by clause 3 of this regulation, shall collectively perform its role and execute its functions as per the Journal’s policy defined in the clause 7 (a) of this regulation and as formulated by the Advisory Board from time to time.
(v) Executive Committee: The Executive Committee [hereinafter the EC] of the Society, as defined by Clause 3.1 (i) of the Rules and Regulations of the Society.
(vi) Managing Editor: The Managing Editor, as defined by clause 6 of this regulation, shall manage the day-to-day activities of the Journal, as per the directions of the Editor(s) and shall report to the Editor(s).
(vii) Life Member of the Society: Life Members of the Society, as defined by Clause 1.2 (b) of the Rules and Regulations of the Society.
(viii) Member Secretary of the Advisory Board: Member Secretary of the Advisory Board shall be the President of the Society.
(ix) President: The President of the Society, as defined by Clause 3.1 and 3.3 of the Rules and Regulations of the Society.
(x) Secretary: The Secretary of the Society, as defined by Clause 3.5 of the Rules and Regulations of the Society.
(xi) Society: The Indian Society for Ecological Economics (INSEE).
(xii) Treasurer: The Treasurer of the Society, as defined by Clause 3.6 of the Rules and Regulations of the Society.
- The Advisory Board:
(a) Constitution: The Advisory Board shall consist of the following persons:
(i) no less than eight persons of repute from the relevant disciplines who shall be the members,
(ii) the Editor (or Editors), who shall be the Chair, and
(iii) the President, who shall be the Member -Secretary and convene the meetings of the Advisory Board.
Exclusion 1: No member of the Executive Committee will simultaneously be a member of the Advisory Board (except the President whose role is defined in 2(a) (iii).
(b) Chair: The Editor shall be the ex-officio Chair of the Advisory Board.
Explanation: If there is more than one Editor, the ex-officio Chair of the Advisory Board shall be by rotation in a manner to be decided by the Editors among themselves. Other Editors will be members of the Advisory Board.
(c) The President shall invite the members of the Advisory Board, following the recommendation of the EC.
(d) The term of each member of the Advisory Board shall be of three years.
- Editorial Board:
(a) The Editorial Board shall consist of the Editor (or Editors) and the Associate Editors.
(b) The Editor shall be the ex-officio Chair of the Editorial Board.
Explanation: If there is more than one Editor, the ex-officio Chair of the Editorial Board shall be by rotation in a manner to be decided by the Editors among themselves.
Exclusion 1: No member of the Executive Committee will simultaneously be a member of the Editorial Board.
Exclusion 2: The President will not be a member of the Editorial Board simultaneously.
- Editor:
(a) There shall be no more than three Editors.
(b) The selection of the Editor(s) shall be by the Advisory Board. Following the ratification of such selection by the EC, the President shall invite the Editor(s)
Exception: The President, on the recommendation of the EC, shall invite the Founder Editor(s).
(c) The term of the Editor(s) shall be of three years.
(d) No Editor can serve more than two consecutive terms.
(e) An Editor must be a Life Member of the Society.
(a) There shall be no more than ten [2] Associate Editors.
(b) The selection of the Associate Editor(s) shall be by the Advisory Board. Following the ratification of such selection by the EC, the President shall invite the Associate Editor(s).
Exception: The President, in consultation with the Editor(s) shall invite the Founder Associate Editor(s).
(c) The term of the Associate Editor(s) shall be of three years.
(d) No Associate Editor can serve more than two consecutive terms.
(e) An Associate Editor must be a life member of INSEE.
- Managing Editor:
(a) The Managing Editor shall be selected by the Selection Committee set up for this purpose by the EC.
(b) The ex-officio Chair of the Advisory Board [clause 2 (b) of this Regulation] shall chair such a Selection Committee.
(c) The selection committee shall consist of (i) the ex-officio Chair of the Advisory Board/ Editorial Board (ii) the President, (iii) the Secretary (iv) the Treasurer and (v) at least one member of the Advisory Board (other than the Member-Secretary of the Advisory Board). The selection committee can conduct the process electronically by email or similar.
(d) The selection of Managing Editor will be as per recommendations of the Selection Committee and shall be ratified by the EC, who shall appoint her/him.
(e) The Managing Editor shall be paid a remuneration to be determined by the EC.
(f) Terms and Conditions for the appointment of the Managing Editor shall be drawn up and proposed by the EC and ratified by the Advisory Board. The contract shall be executed between the appointee and the Secretary.
Exception: In order to help at the initial stage, the Selection Committee may request any life member of INSEE (except the EC members) to serve as the Managing Editor, till such time as they deem fit, but ordinarily not exceeding two years. In such instance the Managing Editor shall receive an honorarium quantum of which will be decided by the EC.
- Powers of the Advisory Board:
(a) The Founder Advisory Board will frame the Journal’s policy, in line with the Aims and Objects of the Society (section 3 of Memorandum of Association of the Society) to be ratified by the EC. Other Advisory Boards may introduce changes in the policy as required from time to time. Such changes shall come to effect only after its ratification by the EC.
(b) The Advisory Board shall be responsible for the fulfilment of the objectives of the Society through the Journal.
- Meetings of the Advisory Board
(a) The Advisory Board shall hold its meeting at least once in a calendar year.
(b) Notice for such meeting shall be served by its Member-Secretary.
(c) Notice for such a meeting shall be given at least fourteen days before the day of meeting.
(d) The quorum for such a meeting shall be 3 members.
