PhD Scholars’ Talk Series

The first webinar of the Talk Series was held on November 18, 2024, in the wake of the 29th Conference of Parties in Azerbaijan. Three PhD scholars—Pankaj Kumar from the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi; Surbhi Vyas from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati; and Aayush Shah from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras—shared their research on "Climate Change: Understanding Local and Regional Issues and the Need for Global Cooperation."

Pankaj Kumar discussed how demographic shifts and financial satisfaction influence preferences for environmental protection and the effects of these factors, along with institutional trust, on voluntary participation in environmental organizations. Aayush Shah and Surbhi Vyas presented their research on climate change risk assessment, focusing on the Indian Himalayan Region and the state of Sikkim, respectively, with an emphasis on potential policy intervention points. Prof. Seema Purushothaman, President of INSEE, introduced the session, which was moderated by Dr. Manjula Menon, Vice President of INSEE. Approximately forty attendees participated, including several members of the Executive Committee.
